Workers Compensation Insurance

Workers Compensation Insurance, also known as workers comp, is a mandatory form of insurance for businesses. Workers compensation protects businesses from being sued by employees for work-related injuries and illnesses, while employees receive coverage for medical costs and a portion of lost wages.

How Does Workers Compensation Work?

A workers compensation policy has two components:
  • The workers compensation section covers bodily injury caused by accidents on the job and by disease caused by or aggravated by workplace conditions. Common benefits available to employees includes medical treatment, permanent and temporary disability and death benefits.
  • The employer’s liability section protects you if your business is found civilly liable for employee injuries. Employer’s liability coverage protects the business against common-law claims like consequential bodily injury to an employee's family member, care and loss of services, and some types of third party claims.

Do You Need Workers Comp Insurance?

Virtually every state requires workers compensation insurance. Workers comp laws are intended to make sure employers pay for some part of the cost of injuries and occupational diseases that employees receive during the course of their job.
